First of all, I would like to introduce myself. I am a medical doctor studying in a medical school of a university in Shanghai. I usually travel from clinic to laboratory. The rhythm of doctors is usually very busy.
Sudden pain
Last National Day, when relatives came to my family, I helped my parents and didn’t drink much water for two days. On October 4 (2015), I suddenly felt that my heel and ankle were painful and it was difficult to walk.
As a surgeon, the first reaction in my mind is: twisted? However, if you think about it carefully, you don’t seem to have touched it before, and you haven’t run recently.
Just when he was puzzled, the father suffering from gout suddenly said, “You can’t be gout, can you?” ]
Torre simply woke up the dreamer with a word! I quickly recalled my living habits and various abnormalities in the past two months:
-
From time to time, lower limb joint pain will occur, especially toes, instep and ankle.
-
Drink not much water, urine has been very yellow;
-
Love seafood and bean products;
-
One and a half months ago, the physical examination showed that the bleeding uric acid was 620 mol/L (far exceeding the upper limit of normal value);
-
Family History: Torre Gout.
However, other indicators were normal during the physical examination, so I didn’t take it seriously. Now that I think about it, I should have thought of gout at that time.
Later, I checked the internal medicine book and felt that I should have been in the second stage of gout: acute arthritis.
Before this, I had instep and toe pain from time to time, and the pain of joints and back of foot would worsen after exercise. I thought it was sports injury caused by running, but the orthopaedic doctor found no abnormality after examination.
Looking back now, it should be caused by excessive sweating after exercise, failure to drink water in time and elevated uric acid.
I studied it carefully again and immediately broke out in a cold sweat. This seemingly common disease, the problem behind it cannot be underestimated!
Gout is more than joint pain.
First of all, gout and hyperuricemia are only one of the manifestations of a group of metabolic syndromes, often accompanied by obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
As doctors, they know more about these diseases than ordinary people, and they also know more about the harm of these diseases. His grandmother had severe atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease.
Gout and hyperuricemia finally threaten the kidneys, causing kidney stones and even renal failure. About one-third of gout will cause kidney injury, and more than 15% of gout patients will eventually die of renal failure.
When I was practicing in the hospital, the most impressive department in internal medicine was nephrology:
Looking at the patients lying beside the hemodialysis instrument, their skin was gray and they were lying there for several hours in misery. At that time, they felt that they could not get kidney disease even if they had what. It was really very painful.
As a result, I am suffering from gout now, and kidney problems may occur if I am not well controlled. How can I not be scared?
After that, I consulted the director of Rheumatology and Immunology, who replied:
Your problem is not serious at present, for you, first must drink more water. Seafood, beer to control. First diet control for a period of time to see. After a period of time must check uric acid, if the control effect is not good, should take medicine or take medicine!
Diet control is fundamental
Now I drink at least 2 liters of plain boiled water every day, I don’t eat much hot pot, and I don’t drink much beer. Severe joint pain has not occurred again, and foot back pain has improved a lot. I am going to go to the hospital for reexamination in a few weeks.
Like many people, I am reluctant to take medicine, but as a doctor, I understand better:
Any drug has [side effects], but as long as the drug is taken correctly, the benefits of the drug will far outweigh the [side effects].
Although the disease cannot be cured at present, it can be well controlled. If it is not controlled, the consequences will be very serious.
At the beginning of the disease, we must control our diet, drink more water and curb the development of the disease at the source. Prevention of gout is very important and simple. Shut up! Of course, if it is really serious and needs to take medicine, it is absolutely impossible to resist avoidance.
Here, I would like to encourage all gout patients to stay away from gout together!
