When it comes to [the baby fell into bed], many mothers have similar experiences. The baby’s forehead bulges with a big bag, and the parents blame themselves and feel distressed.
You put the baby on the bed, turned around and took a new diaper, the baby fell…
The baby and you were sleeping in the big bed and heard crying in the middle of the night. It turned out that the baby fell out of bed…
The first reaction of many parents is to run quickly and hold the baby in their arms to comfort them not to cry again. When the child settles down, everything will be fine without obvious wounds.
So, is this approach really correct?
Compared with obvious skin bruises, more serious hidden dangers are hidden in some invisible places.
When a child falls into bed, the first thing to do is not to pick it up directly, but to observe it first.
01 It is very common for babies to fall into bed, and the consequences may be very serious.
On June 7, 2018, according to a report by Zhongan Online, Ningbo Women’s and Children’s Hospital admitted 2 cases of intracranial hemorrhage caused by falling into bed within one day.
The two babies both fell from their beds in their own homes, because the injured children were conscious and showed no special performance.
But after a few hours, the child was found to be sleepy and vomiting, and the parents rushed to the hospital. Emergency CT examination revealed epidural hemorrhage of the brain, and the doctor also performed intracranial hematoma removal urgently after admission.
For babies, falling out of bed is very dangerous and can be fatal.
The baby’s physical development stage doomed their heads to be heavier, larger and more fragile.
When falling, it is easy to fall to the ground in a [head-to-ground] way, at which time the fragile head is hit the most. This is also the worst condition that may occur in the previous case-the occurrence of craniocerebral injury, which may include concussion, skull fracture and even intracranial hemorrhage.
In our backstage search, we found that many mothers had had such breathtaking experiences.
After the baby falls into bed, be sure not to pick up the baby immediately.
In most cases, it is no problem to pick up the baby.
However, if the baby falls off the bed, the following situations occur:
- Lost consciousness, shed a lot of blood, looks like he was seriously injured in the head.
Moving a baby with head or spinal injury may lead to serious complications.
If the baby is vomiting or epileptic at this time, you can gently let them sideways. But when turning over, be sure to keep the baby’s neck straight.
In the follow-up observation, if the baby has the following symptoms, please parents must take the child to the hospital immediately and let the doctor take further measures:
- Loss of consciousness Abnormal breathing or slow outflow of transparent liquid from nose or ears or bleeding. Two pupils of different sizes have prominent fontanelle of the head, epileptic seizures, severe wounds, frequent vomiting, uncontrollable crying, extreme lethargy or difficulty in waking up, changes in diet or sleep patterns, slurred speech or limited movement.
After confirming that the baby has no bleeding or dyskinesia and is conscious, one side can hold the head, the other side can lift the buttocks, gently appease, and observe at home for 24-48 hours.
03 The baby fell into bed, so the baby was investigated.
When the baby accidentally falls off the bed, parents should check from the order of [head and neck-trunk-limbs]:
1. Is there any head and neck injury or depression? Can you move normally and freely?
Pay close attention to lumps, bruises or other injuries on their heads; Check the clavicle for bulging and other injury reactions, because the injury here is easily ignored and does not affect normal activities even after injury.
2. Is there any trauma or bruise on the skin?
Another possibility of falling is bruises, scratches and even bleeding.
The baby’s skin is quite immature, and it is easy to have skin injuries when falling. Worse still, the baby’s coagulation function is also relatively poor, especially for babies about 6 months old.
Even if there is no injury on the epidermis, if there is congestion, the problem of what may not be seen at the beginning, and the injury will gradually appear after a long time, but the disease may already be very serious at this time.
3. Do arms, legs, hands and feet move freely?
If there is injury to joints and limbs, please fix the baby with wooden boards to reduce the second injury and send the baby to a doctor immediately.
There is no shortage of secrets. Prevention is the key.
After 8 months, most babies begin to crawl. At this time, they often ignore the height.
What is more difficult is that babies who cannot crawl will ignore the danger of falling when turning over.
In fact, it is still very common for babies under 2 years old to fall into bed, because they are active and have no sense of danger. They have just learned to turn over, crawl and stand. They also lack control over their bodies and cannot face danger well.
In addition, they are petite, and any place is high for them.
What about parents who can be what?
In addition to the impossible protection method of looking at children every minute and second, parents have more front work to do:
Step 1 Place your baby in a crib
Most [falling into bed] occurs when the child is sleeping, whether during the day or at night. If the baby is allowed to sleep alone, it is better to place the baby in the crib, which can greatly reduce the occurrence of accidents compared with placing the baby in an unprotected bed.
If you set up a fence beside the bed, it must be noted that the choice of the fence is very important.
The fence must be firm and the distance between the railings should be less than 6cm to eliminate the possibility of suffocation of the baby stuck in the gap between the railings.
In addition, the height of the fence should be higher than the height of the baby’s chest when standing, otherwise there will be the possibility of climbing over and falling.
2. Under the bed, there are cushions such as floor mats.
Around the bed where the baby sleeps, soft sponge pads and thick blankets are laid to help cushion some injuries.
3. Place the baby directly on a lower plane.
Putting the baby on a lower plane can effectively prevent possible injuries caused by height difference.
If parents need to leave temporarily, they can place the baby on the floor mat.
4. Put it in the stroller and fasten the baby’s seat belt.
If the mother is alone at home and needs to do housework, cannot take close care of the baby, and the baby is very clingy, she can put the baby in the stroller and fasten her seat belt.
Finally, I would like to say a few more words. Many mothers blame themselves for their negligence when they say that their children fall into bed. If their children are really injured, their mothers will even think that they have done something unforgivable.
However, the mother is not a robot either. It is really difficult and tiring to take care of a child, especially a baby. It is also impossible not to blink for 24 hours.
Therefore, do a good job of safety protection and remember the first aid measures. In addition, the husband of the family [the most potential child care product] should also help more, after all, it is not the mother’s business to take care of the children alone.
