What should I do?
Gas poisoning may cause irreversible harm to infants, leaving them with lifelong disability.
Once found, immediately open the window for ventilation, transfer the child to the outside and breathe fresh air. Be sure to call 120 for help or go to the nearest emergency department as soon as possible.
Common Mistakes
1. There will be no poisoning without smoke in the room.
Carbon monoxide, which causes poisoning, is a colorless and odorless gas. No soot in the room does not mean no gas.
2. Only burning coal can cause poisoning.
Most of the fuels currently used that can produce open flames, such as gasoline, kerosene, charcoal, etc., may produce a large amount of carbon monoxide and cause gas poisoning under the condition that they cannot be completely burned due to lack of oxygen.
3. Gas poisoning patients will wake up after freezing.
Some folk remedies say that patients with gas poisoning will wake up when they are carried outdoors and frozen. The fact is, cold will aggravate the state of anoxia in the body, hinder the circulation of limb endings, and induce shock and death.
4. Natural gas does not cause poisoning
The main component of natural gas is methane, which is itself a non-toxic combustible gas. However, if the room is not ventilated, it may cause incomplete combustion of natural gas, produce a large amount of carbon monoxide, and lead to gas poisoning.
5. If you put basin water indoors, you will not be poisoned by gas.
Carbon monoxide is insoluble in water, and indoor drainage is not helpful to prevent gas poisoning.
6. Use open flames or electrical appliances on site
At the same time of saving lives, we should also protect ourselves. When entering the scene of gas poisoning, pay attention to opening windows and ventilation in time, and do not use open flames, electrical appliances, etc. If the indoor gas concentration is too high, explosion can be induced.
How to prevent it?
1. Safe use of gas tools and equipment: All gas equipment, including heaters, stoves, heaters, fireplace, etc., shall be checked every year.
2. Regularly check chimneys, heating pipes, ventilation holes, etc. to ensure no deformation or blockage.
3. Do not use fuel or gas heaters in confined spaces such as barracks, saloon cars, trailer boxes and tents.
4. Don’t barbecue indoors.
5. Do not keep warm indoors with gas.
6. Do not turn off the vent before the open flame is completely extinguished.
7. Safe use of transportation: Don’t let the car idle in the garage, even if the garage door is open; Don’t ride behind the bus (saloon car); Don’t swim behind an idling steamboat.
8. Do not use gas generators, lawn mowers or other equipment engines in confined spaces.
