This habit is equivalent to putting a time bomb at home. Are you still doing it?

No matter going to work, going to school, buying vegetables or having dinner, as long as you go out, you must need a convenient means of transportation.

Saving money, time and labor electric bicycles (hereinafter referred to as electric bicycles) are a very popular choice. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the number of electric bicycles in China has now exceeded 200 million.

However, while electric vehicles bring convenience to travel, there is a potential safety hazard that has been ignored by many people:

Charging an electric car or battery indoors

Charging electric vehicles outdoors is not only difficult to find charging piles, but also at risk of loss. Therefore, many people choose to put electric vehicles indoors, which is convenient and safe.

But it is such a seemingly simple little thing that hides huge risks:

In the event of a fire, it will not only endanger the whole family, even neighbors, but also the whole building may suffer and become a serious public safety problem.

If you look carefully, you may find electric cars or batteries charging in corridors and shared rooms.

It will be too late to pay more attention to the fire.

This year’s CCTV 315 party did an experiment: it only takes a few minutes for an electric car to burn completely from a fire.

Even shorter, only a dozen seconds.

Indoors, in addition to the leather and cotton products of electric vehicles, sofas, tables and chairs, curtains, etc. are all flammable materials. The fire broke out quickly, further threatening the safety of public lives and property.

Because many fires occur late at night and are left unattended, they often cause major fire accidents.

Guangzhou Fire Department has conducted experiments. After burning for 5 minutes, the above electric vehicle has reached 1079.5 ℃, and after 6.5 minutes, the whole 4-storey abandoned building is covered with thick smoke.

None of the little hamsters placed in the stairs of each floor survived.

In addition, in the news of the fire in Shibali Store in front, firefighters at the scene mentioned that the fire burned a small area and all the dead died of suffocation by inhaling toxic gases.

Although only two electric bicycles were burned down, the batteries on the electric bicycles will instantly generate a large amount of toxic gases after burning.

In the Guangzhou fire fighting experiment, the carbon monoxide concentration on the 4th floor of the top floor of the building reached 772 ppm, which could be fatal, in only 6.5 minutes after the electric vehicle burned on the first floor of the abandoned building.

It may take more than ten seconds for the battery to charge from fire to explosion.

Why do electric cars catch fire,

CCTV 315 party mentioned that 80% of the electric car fires occurred during the charging process. There are many causes of the fire, the more common ones are:

1. Battery abuse: overcharge, collision, extrusion, high temperature

When many people charge their batteries at home, they often put them aside for one night, and most people do not watch them.

After the battery is fully charged, the normally working charger will cut off the charging current. However, even if the quality of the battery itself is no problem, when the charger fails, it may overcharge, which may lead to a fire or even an explosion.

In addition to overcharging, when the battery collides, extrudes, and the temperature is too high, internal short circuit may also occur, thus causing fire and combustion during charging.

In another experiment of Guangzhou Fire Department, a small lithium battery exploded after being hit by a large impact force, which was enough to explode the protective cover. And our electric car battery consists of several of these small batteries.

2. Battery quality problems

Poor quality and irregularly modified lead-acid batteries and lithium batteries all have the risk of fire.

3. The charging line caught fire.

Some families will also use unsuitable chargers or even pull [flying wires] to charge electric vehicles, which is one of the potential safety hazards.

In fact, the solution is not difficult either.

Having said so much, how can we avoid it?

1. Buy big brand electric bicycles instead of modified cars.

2. If you want to change the battery, buy a big brand of battery.

3. Please find a reliable repair shop for repair, and regularly check and maintain the electric bicycle.

4. Develop good charging habits:

Try not to charge indoors or in the public space of the building. If it is really unavoidable, it is necessary to keep away from inflammables and have people on duty during charging. Do not fly when charging outdoors; Use big-name original chargers; After charging, if conditions permit, cut off the power or unplug the plug as soon as possible.

5. Timing charging plug can be selected to reduce the risk of overcharging.

Note: Timing charging plug is only a supplement.

In the electric bicycle industry, the relevant standards are lagging behind, the manufacturers are mixed up with good and evil people, and the management is chaotic. Many conditions of fire (such as flying wires and socket quality) are beyond the control of the manufacturers. Never use chargers of unknown origin or charge indoors lightly just because such plugs are used.

No matter whether it is a big brand of electric bicycles or a miscellaneous brand of electric bicycles, we must form a good habit of safe charging.

If you happen to be in the habit of charging electric cars indoors, I hope you can make some changes after reading this article.

If your relatives, friends or neighbors are using electric cars, please tell them to pay attention to them.

Every accident is taken lightly.
