This antiviral drug is not only useless but also poisonous! Doctors don’t say, but parents must know

In the first two days, clove mother sent an article on flu prevention and care, which mentioned a little about ribavirin, an antiviral drug that should not be used for babies.

Unexpectedly, many mothers were worried when they saw it, and talked about their children’s experience of being Kaili Bavirin in the comment area one after another.

The baby caught a cold and coughed. The doctor gave Kaili Bavirin:

The baby has flu, and the doctor prescribed ribavirin spray, which has been sprayed for several days:

The baby got pneumonia and the doctor atomized ribavirin:

The baby had hands, feet and mouth, and the doctor also gave Ribavirin:

For intussusception of the baby, the doctor also returned Kailibavirin, saying it was used to prevent virus infection:

Is ribavirin a magic medicine for all diseases? Have we wronged it?

It’s the other way around! Ribavirin is currently seriously abused!

Today we invited pharmacist Liu Ziqi to give us a good peeling of ribavirin and why not use it for children.

Ribavirin is useless for common diseases in children.

For common diseases of children such as common cold, influenza, hand-foot-mouth disease and acute infectious diarrhea, ribavirin is ineffective.

Although ribavirin is called a broad-spectrum antiviral drug, it can treat a single disease.

In fact, ribavirin can really treat only the following two diseases:

Oral preparations are only used for combined treatment of adult hepatitis C; Spray preparation is only suitable for severe lower respiratory tract infection caused by respiratory syncytial virus (blackboard knock: not common upper respiratory tract infection).

In addition, China’s State Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) also pointed out that ribavirin is still lacking in detailed research on drug use for children.

What does the lack of detailed research mean?

That is to say, there is no scientific basis for ribavirin when encountering common diseases of children such as common cold, influenza, mild hand, foot and mouth, acute infectious diarrhea, etc.

Teratogenic, hemolytic anemia, carcinogenic, ribavirin side effects are terrible

1. Teratogenic risk

Both men and women of childbearing age who have used ribavirin have to use contraception for at least half a year. At present, there are sufficient studies to prove that ribavirin can cause fetal malformation and death.

Mothers considering having a second child should pay attention. If you have taken or injected ribavirin yourself, the plan to have a second child should be delayed by at least half a year.

2. Hemolytic anemia

Ribavirin may also cause hemolytic anemia.

After oral administration or injection of ribavirin for 1-2 weeks, the child may suffer from hemoglobin reduction, leukocyte count reduction and other symptoms, seriously affecting the child’s own immune ability.

If the baby happens to have thalassemia or sickle cell anemia, and the doctor prescribes ribavirin without knowing it, myocarditis may be caused and the damage may be fatal.

3. Carcinogenic risk

The World Health Organization (WHO) Adverse Drug Reaction Database includes 81 cases of tumors caused by ribavirin adverse reactions.

Is it necessary to take such a strong risk of adverse reactions to give ribavirin to children for the non-existent antiviral effect?

Ribavirin, abused more than a little!

I don’t know when, [the child is ill, take a little ribavirin] has become a common way of administration.

There were previous news reports that kindergartens had given ribavirin to nearly 300 children in order to prevent hand-foot-mouth disease.

Even if you can’t hide from kindergartens that give your children medicine indiscriminately, you probably can’t hide from hospitals and doctors that prescribe medicine indiscriminately.

As the parents said in the comment area at the beginning of the article, no matter whether it is a 3A hospital or not, no matter whether the child has what, a dose of ribavirin should be given first.

A survey entitled “Analysis of Ribavirin Use in Children” published in the Journal of Medicine in 2009 showed that:

In the emergency department of a large children’s hospital in Beijing, 12.8% of the prescriptions issued contained ribavirin, while 68% of these prescriptions containing ribavirin were issued to children under 3 years old, and the proportion of intravenous injection exceeded 80%.

More than one parent also reported in the comment area that every doctor he met had prescribed ribavirin and was looked down upon to point out their mistakes.

The abuse of ribavirin is very serious in the front line of medical treatment, and all this is due to the lag in updating medical knowledge.

Health is tied to life.
