Many people will have such troubles:
The facial skin is dark yellow and not bright enough.
Hypertrophy and pigmentation occur in elbow joint.
The absorption effect of smeared skin care products is not good…
These may be manifestations of stratum corneum thickening.
So, does it need to be exfoliated? If you want to exfoliate, is it better to use what?
First, what is stratum corneum?
The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of skin and consists of 10 to 20 layers of flat, nuclear-free dead cells, so exfoliation is also commonly known as [exfoliation].
The stratum corneum is very thin, only about 20 microns, which is almost the thickness of a layer of plastic wrap.
Although they are all aged and necrotic keratinocytes, they are very important and act as an important barrier to the skin.
Once this barrier is damaged, the skin will become thinner, prone to redness, itching and rash, leading to the formation of sensitive muscles and various color spots.
Second, do we have to go to the stratum corneum?
It’s not.
Under normal circumstances, when these cells will fall off naturally, then the underlying cells will be pushed up, and the epidermis can complete a self-renewal in about 28 days.
Therefore, exfoliation is generally not recommended unless it is especially thick and rough skin.
If you really feel that the stratum corneum is very thick and the skin is rough and dark yellow, and you hope to improve it by exfoliating, then you also need to make appropriate choices according to different skin types.
Three, can use what method to exfoliate?
The first type is physical stripping method.
The cutin can be peeled off by cleaning, such as using frosted products.
If it is facial skin, under normal circumstances, daily use of facial cleanser, makeup remover products and other morning and evening facial cleansing, also can achieve the effect of cleaning and partial exfoliation, should avoid vigorously rubbing, gently circling the face, with T area as the main. Unconventional recommended frosted facial cleanser for cleaning.
If the body part is thicker or pigmented, such as the elbow joint, then you can occasionally choose cleaning products containing fine and soft particles, which will be much milder.
It is recommended to apply moisturizing products immediately after washing to establish a protective layer containing grease for skin.
The second type is chemical stripping method.
Products containing fruit acid and salicylic acid can be smeared to exfoliate.
For facial exfoliation, you can choose mild acid products, which will not irritate and tighten after application. Start with low concentration products, gradually adapt and establish tolerance, and then increase the concentration appropriately. At the same time, do not use exfoliation products around eyes and lips.
When removing cutin from body parts, apply some mild products containing fruit acids to thick skin to avoid thin and tender wrinkles.
It should be noted that when removing facial cutin, the frequency of different skin types will be different.
Generally speaking, oily skin can be removed once a week. Dry, neutral and mixed skin can be visited once every 2 weeks or once a month, focusing on the T area (forehead and nose). Sensitive skin is best not to exfoliate.
If cutin is removed from body parts, it is more appropriate to remove it once every 1 or 2 weeks.
In a word, most skin, even large oily skin, is not so resistant to formation, and with the growth of age, the skin will shrink and become more dry.
Therefore, it is OK to use exfoliating products occasionally. If they are used frequently for a long time, they will interfere with the self-renewal process of the epidermis, which may damage the skin barrier and induce skin inflammation, sensitivity and other symptoms.
