Kidney deficiency is a term with high frequency in Chinese system. Taking [kidney deficiency] as the key word, more than 16,000 records can be retrieved on CNKI, which shows that kidney deficiency is also a hot spot in [academic].
But from a scientific medical perspective, what exactly is kidney deficiency? It seems that some can’t say for sure.
First of all, let’s talk about [kidney]
Kidney is a pair of substantial organs, shaped like broad beans, one on the left and right sides, which is part of the urinary system. Its main function is to discharge metabolic wastes dissolved in water in the body…
Hey, wait a minute, is this the kidney in the sense of modern medical anatomy, the same thing as the kidney with kidney deficiency?
In fact, yes and no, no and no.
The kidney of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is the same [kidney]
Historically, the concept of “kidney” in traditional Chinese medicine was originally the same thing as that in anatomy introduced into China later, because doctors in history have also done research and exploration in anatomy and left valuable records.
The ancient books that can be verified at present seem to tell us that the kidney in Chinese is actually kidney in modern medicine.
< < Huangdi Neijing Spirit Pivot Expansion on All Diseases Begin to Produce Thirty-fifth > >;
For patients with kidney distension, the abdomen is full and leads to the central center of the back, the waist is painful… For patients with bladder distension, the abdomen is less and the qi is swollen.
Here, some symptoms of waist pain are already linked to the kidney.
Our ancestors actually wanted to find out whether these specific organs of the human body are what structures and whether they are related to what with specific diseases.
However, if we casually look through a textbook of the current College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, it is not difficult to find the following description:
The zang-fu organs referred to in traditional Chinese medicine are not simply an anatomical concept, but a summary of the physiological and pathological concepts of a certain system of the human body.
According to this understanding, the so-called kidney in traditional Chinese medicine is not kidney in modern medicine.
Besides [emptiness]
Deficiency means deficiency labor and deficiency loss, which is the most extensive disease syndrome in the internal medicine of traditional Chinese medicine. In modern medicine, many clinical manifestations of chronic consumptive diseases and functional decline diseases can be put into the basket of [deficiency labor]. According to the viewpoint of traditional Chinese medicine, these situations can be treated according to deficiency labor according to syndrome differentiation.
As for spermatorrhea and impotence classified as kidney deficiency, it is the “kidney deficiency” that people pay most attention to in daily life. How much real money and silver are rolling in and out for this kind of “kidney deficiency”.
Is there a kind of [kidney deficiency] spermatorrhea?
For example, spermatorrhea is a normal physiological phenomenon. In all classic sexology textbooks, this phenomenon is classified as normal physiology. When semen is continuously produced and accumulated to a certain extent in a saturated state, it will be discharged out of the body. In fact, this is a Nocturnal Orgasm phenomenon, which is not surprising at all.
Even women have this kind of situation. Ancient doctors also gave women a frightening name [Mengjiao] for this kind of situation. They also differentiated it into [kidney yang deficiency] and treated it with Erjialonggu Decoction.
Originally, Zhang Jingyue, a physician of the Ming Dynasty, wrote < < Jing Yue Quan Shu > > which also had a view that was in line with physiological reality:
The prime of life is full of vigor, and those who desire to save their houses for a long time are left behind. Those who are full and overflow are also full.
However, some successors of traditional Chinese medicine in later generations have plausibly set a time limit for spermatorrhea, and what is morbid more than how many times a month.
In 2009, the Chinese Journal of Family Planning published < < Literature Analysis on Influencing Factors of Male First Spermatorrhea Age in China > >, researchers believe that the age of male first spermatorrhea in China is affected by many factors such as economy, culture, social environment and so on, showing an obvious trend of gradual advance.
According to the theory that spermatorrhea is kidney deficiency, it can only be said that children are collectively [kidney deficiency].
In fact, with the growth of age, no one can keep the frequency of spermatorrhea. Many papers published in Chinese academic journals on the treatment of kidney deficiency spermatorrhea by traditional Chinese medicine still do not forget to advise teenagers to abstain from masturbation.
The author couldn’t help laughing: the harmful theory of masturbation has long been swept into the garbage heap of history as an outdated view!

Professor Ma Xiaonian, a famous sexologist, pointed out:
The vast majority of young people who come to see a doctor think that kidney deficiency does not have any sexual problems. When you earnestly explain to them the basic knowledge of sexual anatomy and sexual reaction, they are always dissatisfied. [Even if I am not ill, how can I get some tonic when I come all the way? ]
After all, they still think they are sick and have kidney deficiency. It is easy to say that they are sick, just in a word, but it takes several times of time and tongue to explain that they are not sick.
Is there another kind of [kidney deficiency] impotence?
Another disease is classified as kidney deficiency, which is impotence. (Click on the right link to see directly: What is impotence and premature ejaculation? )
According to the current statistics, any traditional Chinese medicine that claims to be able to strengthen yang cannot really solve the problem of impotence. None of them can pass serious and systematic scientific verification. If the aphrodisiac drugs [developed] 12,000 years ago can really improve men’s sexual function, there will be no infinite scenery of Viagra.
At this time, there will certainly be some young people who think of kidney deficiency and say: After taking some traditional Chinese medicines, my consciousness function has really improved!
This is not impossible, but really possible. Because the domestic drug administration has repeatedly found sildenafil (Viagra) in proprietary Chinese medicines that claim to be [non-toxic and non-side effects].

This kind of behavior itself reflects the attitude of those unscrupulous profiteers towards their exclusive secret recipe. They know better than anyone that what works!
However, the practice of mixing western medicine ingredients into traditional Chinese medicine is more terrible than drugs without practical effects! Who knows if sildenafil will react with those traditional Chinese medicines and lead to fatal adverse consequences?
Professor Ma Xiaonian believes that:
Now people often say that kidney deficiency is only a cultural disease.
The International Classification of Diseases only lists it in the Appendix [Culture Specific Barrier], that is, it was originally found only in a specific culture and only exists in that specific cultural environment.
In fact, it is just a worry about semen loss, which leads to serious anxiety, and the autonomic nerve dysfunction aroused by anxiety is further transformed into somatic symptoms.
There is no need for us to belittle ourselves because of this cultural disease, because in addition to traditional Chinese medicine, there is also an ancient traditional medicine that also treats spermatorrhea as a disease, that is, Ayurvedic Medicine in India. It can be said that I am not alone in clinging to the remnants and keeping the deficiencies.
Finally, I would like to amend Yan Fu’s words to end this article:
The disadvantages of kidney deficiency are all in eight characters: it begins with falsification and ends with shameless.
The so-called kidney deficiency, or rest.
Other Views
Later, we interviewed Dr. Fu Cun from the Department of Spleen and Stomach Diseases of Xiyuan Hospital, Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He also talked about his own views on the issue of [kidney deficiency]:
When I was in the clinic, I also strongly criticized [spleen deficiency]. Don’t always say that you have spleen deficiency, and want to use drugs [to invigorate the spleen]. Besides, the most important thing for [invigorating the spleen] is to exercise, not take drugs.
I also often criticize [kidney deficiency] and think that the statement of [tonifying kidney] should be reduced. In this sense, it is worth recommending.
Traditional Chinese medicine [kidney deficiency] is divided into degrees, which is not reflected in the national standard, but there are differences in actual clinical practice. It is also of practical clinical significance for the different symptoms shown in the standard [kidney deficiency syndrome group].
Clinically, there is a real kidney deficiency, and this kidney includes the functions of western medicine kidney and adrenal cortex as well as part of prostate gland. The most important thing is that the treatment of tonifying kidney can benefit patients. This can be confirmed by clinical practice of some animal experiments.
No matter [kidney deficiency] or [spleen deficiency], this is the state of the human body, not necessarily a disease, the degree is different, the performance is different. Many need not be treated, but it does not mean that this syndrome does not exist. China and the West have different ways of thinking and need to know more.
We should criticize the abuse of the concept of [kidney deficiency], instead of denying all [kidney deficiency], and objectively show the phenomenon that kidney deficiency is overemphasized. The most important way to improve many [kidney deficiency] is to exercise, not to take what supplements.
