Many people want to have laser surgery to correct their eyesight, but they are very worried about various side effects. One of the most common problems is [why haven’t you seen an ophthalmologist do it]?
Today, Dr. Clove hired a professional ophthalmologist who works in one of the country’s top ophthalmic hospitals and performs refractive surgery on patients from all over the country. Three years ago, she underwent full femtosecond laser surgery to treat myopia. We asked her to share her real feelings.
Quanfei is what?
All femtosecond laser surgery, the full name is femtosecond small incision lens extraction, there is also a very good English abbreviation, called SMILE. Because only femtosecond laser is used in the whole process, it is abbreviated as [all femtosecond]. It can be used to correct myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and other ametropia.
Myopia correction surgery has experienced technological progress from knife to knife-free. Full femtosecond laser surgery has brought faster, more accurate, safer, more stable and more comfortable knife-free surgery to patients.
Before surgery-comprehensive evaluation, pay attention to details
Although full femtosecond surgery has many advantages, not everyone can do it. Moreover, if there is no strict preoperative evaluation, it is likely to bring about postoperative adverse reactions.
The most important indicators for evaluating a person’s suitability for myopia correction surgery are diopter, corrected vision, corneal thickness and corneal morphology, and pupil size. After completing these key examinations, my eye conditions are completely suitable for surgery.
There are still some relatively minor examinations, including mydriasis examination of fundus, etc. Originally, I was afraid that within a few hours after pupil dilation, I would be afraid of light and could not see clearly, which would somewhat affect my work and I didn’t want to do it. However, after careful consideration, I decided to complete all inspections according to the established procedures. This is also responsible for myself.
Facts have proved that mydriasis examination is necessary. First, my myopia degree changes after mydriasis, and diopter needs to be confirmed again. Secondly, I have a bleeding point in my retina, which was examined and confirmed by my colleagues again. I think that I do not need treatment and can undergo surgery.
Warm Reminder:
1. Don’t streamline the examination in order to save time or fear trouble. Comprehensive and perfect preoperative examination is the basic guarantee of the surgical effect.
2. Everyone’s eye conditions are different. Whether surgery is possible and how effective it is after surgery must be subject to professional evaluation by doctors. No hearsay is allowed, even close relatives and friends.
3. If there are abnormal conditions found after examination, further examination is needed, or surgery can only be performed after treatment. If there are temporary unsuitable conditions for surgery, observation should be selected or surgery should be abandoned. Don’t force it.
During the operation-relax because of understanding.
Speaking of surgery, Many people will have a picture of a knife light and blood shadow in their minds. It’s chilling. Fortunately, I am an ophthalmologist and refractive surgeon myself. I know the principle and process of this operation well. I think it is more appropriate to be a fine operation than an operation. I hope everyone can have a more objective understanding of the operation after reading this article.
After entering the operating room, put on the reverse dress, put on the hat, put on the shoe cover, the nurse disinfected the eyes and ordered the surface anesthetic. Lying on the operating table, my right eye was stretched open by the eyelid opener, and I felt the cotton swabs wiped on the surface of my eyes. These scenes are both familiar and unfamiliar, which makes me feel very interesting.
The formal operation process is mainly divided into two parts:
Part I: Fabrication of Femtosecond Laser Lens
This process requires certain self-control and cooperation.
First of all, the right eye is fixed on the green dot, and the doctor is aligning. Be careful not to frown or squeeze your eyes. Slowly, a machine approaches the eyeball and contacts the eyeball, feeling the eyeball is gently pressed, and hearing the prompt sound of the machine [ready], indicating that the eyeball alignment and attraction have been completed at this time. Then you will find that the green dot disappears and you will see a piece of light. This is the process of femtosecond laser scanning the cornea, which lasts for about 20 seconds.
In this process, the eyeball should remain motionless. In fact, it is not difficult, because the eyeball is attracted by a certain negative pressure. As long as you don’t turn the eyeball hard or wink, you can generally remain motionless.
In case of severe eye movements during this process, the doctor will stop the scanning and re-scan, reschedule the operation or change the operation method according to the situation.
Under normal circumstances, after confirming the operation, the doctor will instruct some fixed vision training before the operation, that is, staring at a fixed point for about 30 seconds, which is good for the cooperation during the operation and also makes oneself psychologically prepared in advance.
This process is a bit like a 4D science fiction movie and a bit like a dream. Because I can’t see the specific image, I feel shuttling through the colorful time tunnel. At the end of the scan, the machine will have a prompt tone. The machine in our hospital said [suction off]; Then there is a [safe distance] tone indicating that the machine is moving away.
Step 2: The doctor separates and takes out the scanned lens.
During this process, only one piece of light is seen, and there is no special gaze point. It is better to keep looking straight ahead or slightly downward, and do not turn your eyeball at will. Feel that there is a slight operation of the instrument on the eyeball, and soon hear the gentle voice of the main knife [very good, one eye is ready].
Then there is the left eye, which feels shorter than the right eye.
Although the two eyes were operated on one after the other, the eyes need to be opened all the way, which is not easy to wink or blink too much.
In just a few minutes, the operation was completed. Before I could imagine how free and convenient it would be to take off my glasses, my full femtosecond experience was over.
Warm Reminder:
1. Before performing the operation, everyone needs to have a general understanding of the principle and process of the operation. It is necessary to know that the operation is very safe and there will not be too many accidents during the operation, so as to avoid excessive worry and tension.
2. Carry out fixation training before operation, relax and cooperate during operation, and listen to the doctor’s arrangement;
3. In case of poor coordination such as eye movement during the operation, the operation can also be rescanned or rescheduled without serious consequences.
After the operation-medication on time, proud but not forgetful
The recovery of eyesight after the operation can be said to be immediate. I came home from work as usual that day. The difference was that I brought back a special toy-my glasses-to my little baby at home. She no longer needed to jump on my face to play with toys.
Although I still felt a little blurred when I saw the object on that day, it was much clearer than before and I could use my eyes normally.
Get rid of glasses, a little feeling of freedom, from time to time there will be a little proud feeling.
However, it is still necessary to use eye drops on time. If you find any discomfort in your eyes, you also need to go to the hospital for examination in time.
The next day my eyesight recovered to more than 1.0, except for a little dry eyes in the morning, there was no other discomfort. After using eye drops for a month, dry eyes gradually improved.
Warm Reminder:
1. Use drugs according to the doctor’s advice after operation and review them regularly;
2. Try not to rub your eyes hard and prevent water from entering your eyes within 1 week.
It has been 3 years since I finished the operation. My eyes are all right. I usually work, even for such fine work as refractive surgery, there is no what problem.
Although full-flight surgery is not a Disney amusement project that can be experienced by buying tickets, if your eye conditions are suitable and you have carefully considered and decided to accept full-flight surgery, then you will have a very good smiling experience and feel that after crossing a short time tunnel, you have reached a free and clear world, SMILE!
