Tuberculosis is the common name of tuberculosis. In the past, there was a saying that “ten tuberculosis and nine deaths”. Many literary works also convey such a message.
Lu Xun’s Hua Xiaoshuan, even after eating the [ancestral folk prescription] of human blood steamed bread, still failed to survive:
Sister Lin in a Dream of Red Mansions, who was in Grand View Garden, failed to cure consumption in the end.
In the past, tuberculosis was indeed an incurable disease, but now it can be prevented and treated.
Dr. Clove will talk about how tuberculosis has gone from [nine deaths from ten tuberculosis] to [nine recovery from ten tuberculosis] and how to prevent tuberculosis.
From [Nine Deaths from Ten Tuberculosis] to [Nine Deaths from Ten Tuberculosis]
Tuberculosis is an ancient disease, and traces of tuberculosis have been found on mummies in ancient Egypt with a history of thousands of years.
Tuberculosis has existed for a long time, but it has only been about 100 years since it was recognized and treated:
In 1882, German scientists discovered that Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the [root] of tuberculosis.
In 1946, a professor at Rutgers University in the United States announced the discovery of streptomycin, a drug with special effects on tuberculosis, thus ushering in a new era of victory over tuberculosis.
Before streptomycin was invented, people had made many attempts such as [king touch therapy] [horse riding therapy] [bloodletting therapy], etc. There is no doubt that these [therapies] cannot cure tuberculosis.
At the same time, tuberculosis is still a [consumptive disease], and the sick people will suffer from malnutrition such as weight loss and emaciation. If they pay attention to rest and nutrition during treatment, it will be conducive to the recovery of the disease. However, it is difficult to ensure sufficient rest and nutrition in the harsh environment such as poverty, natural disasters and wars in the past.
Without effective drugs, coupled with poor living environment, these undoubtedly make it impossible to cure tuberculosis, which leads to the saying of “nine deaths from tuberculosis in ten”.
However, after the advent of streptomycin, more and more anti-tuberculosis drugs such as rifampicin, pyrazinamide and isoniazid were invented, which made it possible to cure tuberculosis.
At the same time, the free tuberculosis treatment policy, vaccination and the improvement of the overall living standard have further ensured the high cure rate of tuberculosis.
Nine out of ten tuberculosis heals, but there are still people who have no medicine to cure.
The vast majority of tuberculosis patients can be cured through standardized treatment, but some tuberculosis is difficult to cure, the main reason is the emergence of [drug-resistant tuberculosis].
Drug-resistant tuberculosis refers to the drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infected by patients to any one or more anti-tuberculosis drugs, i.e. Anti-tuberculosis drugs do not work.
General tuberculosis can be cured after standard treatment for about half a year. However, the treatment time for drug-resistant tuberculosis can be as long as 2 years, and the treatment cost can reach 100 times that of general tuberculosis, and some even have almost no drugs to treat.
Grasp the methods to make tuberculosis treatable and preventable.
1. Prevention of tuberculosis in this way
The two most important parts of tuberculosis prevention are: keeping away from tuberculosis bacteria and enhancing self-immunity. Specifically, it includes:
- Vaccination BCG vaccine diet balance, more exercise, enhance their own immunity frequently wash hands, more ventilation, do not spit room often ventilation, less to more people if cough, expectoration for more than two weeks, to the hospital for tuberculosis screening
2. Follow the principle of medication
Drug-resistant tuberculosis is caused to a large extent by irregular medication. For patients receiving treatment for the first time, if they stop taking drugs without permission or take drugs intermittently, it is not only easy to cause tuberculosis recurrence, but also easy to produce drug resistance and affect the cure rate.
Tuberculosis patients receiving tuberculosis treatment must adhere to early and combined medication, as well as appropriate, regular and full-course medication.
3. Pay attention to the adjustment of physical condition
In addition to medication, nutritional status and immune function will also affect the recovery of tuberculosis. For diseases such as diabetes and AIDS, we must control the existing diseases.
On this basis, attention should also be paid to rest, smoking and drinking, and adequate nutrition.
