Two days ago, Dr. Clove’s neighbor’s precious mother had a worry. She heard that the baby could not sleep in a soft bed. Sleeping in a soft bed would affect the baby’s spinal development. Simmons at home is especially soft, and changing a bed is not a simple thing.
Does sleeping too soft a bed really affect the baby’s spinal development? How to choose the baby’s bed?
Dr. Clove invited Dr. Xu Nanfang to tell us about two or three things about the baby’s bed.
Does the baby sleep in a soft bed have the influence of what?
1. Affect spinal development
Spinal development is an important part of the baby’s growth and development, which affects the baby’s future body shape development.
The baby’s spine grows very fast. At birth, the baby’s spine is very soft, a bit like a C-shape. With the gradual development, the baby gradually learns to look up, crawl and walk upright, forming three spinal cord bends before the age of one, but it will not be gradually shaped until the age of 6.
Therefore, in the long run, Baoma and Baopa need to choose a hard mattress with certain support for their babies and even preschool children. Soft mattresses such as Simmons are not suitable!
Of course, too hard mattresses will affect the baby’s comfort, so choose to be moderate!
2. Risk of suffocation
Compared with affecting spinal development, what is more important is that the baby’s soft bed is easy to block the baby’s nose and mouth, making it difficult for the baby to inhale fresh air. Causing the baby to suffocate and endanger his life.
In addition, when the baby sleeps with his parents, he may be accidentally pressed and suffocated.
For the safety of the baby, it is best to choose a separate crib with appropriate hardness for the baby.
How to choose the right crib?
How to grasp moderation? Is there any judgment standard?
At present, there are many testing standards for baby mattresses, such as New Zealand’s AS/NZS 8811.1: 2013 standard.
The new domestic industry standard QB/T 1952.2-2011 was officially released on December 20, 2011 and formally implemented on April 1, 2014.
Just choose a crib that meets the national standards.
Can I measure our bed as a soft bed?
For the existing mattress at home, Baoma and Baopa can also find 2 boxes of 1-litre square boxes of juice or milk with a bottom width of 70 mm, 12 CD discs, plastic wrap, ruler and marker pen to test the softness of the mattress:
1. Take a box of juice or milk and draw a horizontal line on the side of the box 40 mm from the bottom.
2. Wrap 12 CD discs tightly together with plastic wrap.
3. Place the CD on the mattress to be checked.
4 Place the marked juice box directly above the CD with the 40 mm mark close to the edge of the CD.
5. Select a position to place the second box of juice on the first box of juice so that it remains roughly horizontal.
6. Check whether the bottom of the box is in contact with the mattress.
The results of the test show that if the bottom of the box is in contact with the mattress, it means that the mattress is too soft and not suitable for the baby.
Other Points for Attention
In addition to the hardness of the mattress, in order for the baby to sleep safely, Baoma Baopa should also pay attention to these points:
1. Let the baby sleep alone in his own bed and try not to sleep with his parents.
2. Help the baby to set up a face-up sleeping position. As long as the mattress is not too soft, the baby cannot turn over his face.
3. Don’t add more cushions to the baby’s body.
4. Don’t put pillows, cushions and toys on the baby’s bed.
It is very important for the baby to sleep soundly, but it is more important to sleep healthily and safely. Stop letting the baby sleep in a soft bed and choose a suitable crib for the baby.
