When everyone takes the baby to the hospital for physical examination, they will have an examination: the doctor will pull the baby’s small hands and calves to evaluate the development of the baby’s muscle tension.
Many parents look for relevant information online after physical examination and are worried and suspect that their baby [has brain problems]:
The physical examination said that my baby’s muscle tension was on the high side. I heard that the high side was cerebral palsy?
The Internet said that the baby with hypotonia was Down’s?
Today, Clove’s mother invited pediatrician Xu Ying to tell everyone that the baby’s muscle tension is really what. Is it really so harmful if it is too high or too low?
What is muscular tension?
Muscle tension, that is, [muscle tension], refers to the force generated by muscle cells pulling each other, that is, the tension of muscle in a static and relaxed state.
A figurative metaphor: spring.
Muscle tension is low, [spring is loose], feeling [children are always weak]; The muscle tension is high, [the spring is tight], and the feeling [the child is always stretched].
Doctors usually move the baby’s limbs and joints to feel the muscle tension when the baby’s muscles are relaxed, so as to preliminarily judge whether there is the possibility of diseases of the central nervous system, peripheral nerves and muscle systems.
Is high muscle tension cerebral palsy? Is it Down’s who is on the low side?
Causes of high muscle tension:
1. Particularity of the neonatal period
It is normal for the whole body flexor muscle tension to be high in neonatal period. After 3 months, the passive muscle tension gradually decreases, and after 6 months, the flexor muscle tension further decreases and the extensor muscle tension further increases, thus preparing for standing.
2. Baby’s Emotional Influence
If the baby is nervous and cannot relax, he does not cooperate with the natural examination and cannot make a good judgment, which needs to be judged in combination with the daily situation of the child.
3. Pathological causes
Most of them are related to brain diseases, and cerebral palsy is one of them.
Hypotonia muscularis
There are many causes and diseases covered, which may be Down’s syndrome, etc.
Speaking of which, parents may be a little worried, but what we are talking about [hypertonia] or [hypotonia] is [dystonia] caused by disease factors clinically and needs treatment.
However, the child health care doctor said that the baby’s muscle tension is a little [high] or [low]. In fact, most of the time, it is only the baby’s development difference, so long as it is within the normal range, there is no need to be afraid.
What about abnormal muscle tension?
There is no need to worry within the normal range.
If the baby [pathological dystonia] is suspected, it is recommended to make a timely diagnosis, because the baby with dystonia will have more difficulties in learning to sit, climb and walk, and the earlier the intervention, the better the effect.
