Parents may not know that today, December 15 of each year, is World Intensive Immunization Day. Originally, this day was set up mainly to eradicate polio, also known as polio.
Vaccination is the only effective prevention method.
Poliomyelitis is caused by poliovirus, most of which occurs in childhood. Most sick children will leave their limps and will be disabled for the rest of their lives.
Unfortunately, once the child has polio, there is no effective treatment. The best way is to vaccinate to prevent infection.
Although a few doses of vaccine are the most effective way to prevent and control polio.
Most young parents know the importance of vaccines, but the problem arises…
Now there are more and more kinds of vaccines, and it is a bit confusing to choose them: there are several kinds of vaccines to prevent polio, which are different in what? My baby’s physique is relatively weak, can I get polio vaccine? Can the baby be vaccinated several times? … …
Don’t worry, Ding Ma will talk to you about various problems of polio vaccine.
Three Polio Vaccines in China
At present, there are three kinds of polio vaccines to prevent polio in China, including:
- BOPV: Attenuated polio vaccine, i.e. Attenuated oral drops IPV: Inactivated polio vaccine pentavalent vaccine containing IPV components
BOPV is a live attenuated vaccine and has a certain risk of polio. Although the probability is small, if it does occur, it may cause permanent disability to children.
IPV vaccine and pentavalent vaccine containing IPV components are inactivated poliomyelitis vaccines. The popular point is [dead vaccine], which has no risk of virulence recovery and is safer.
If your baby has low immune function, immune function defects (such as premature infants, perianal abscess, thrush, etc.) or cannot determine whether there is an immune problem, Ding Ma suggests that parents should take the initiative to communicate with the vaccination doctor about the baby and consider a safer choice.
The quintuple vaccine is safe and convenient.
Knowing the difference between attenuated and inactivated vaccines, let’s look at the difference between single vaccine and combined vaccine.
A single vaccine is to be injected one shot at a time, and the whole process of polio prevention requires 4 times of inoculation.
Combined vaccine is that one vaccination can prevent several diseases at the same time, and the baby will get less injections.
There are also many kinds of combined vaccines. For combined vaccines to prevent polio, if economic conditions permit, pentavalent vaccines containing IPV components are safer choices to prevent polio.
Ding Ma thinks that vaccination with quintuple vaccine has two main benefits:
1. Baby suffers less
Children’s quintuple vaccine can prevent whooping cough, diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type B at the same time.
According to the national immunization procedures and instructions, each of these traditional vaccines generally requires 4 doses, and a total of 12 doses are required for such a single shot.
If pentavalent vaccine is used, only 4 doses are needed to prevent all the above-mentioned diseases.
The baby received 8 fewer stitches and the mother ran 8 fewer trips.
2. Timely and guaranteed vaccination
DPT vaccine, inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine and B-type Haemophilus influenzae combined vaccine, if a needle, want to complete the basic immunization before the high incidence of diseases at the age of 6 months, it is a little difficult to operate. If the baby is ill again and the vaccination is delayed, many vaccines may be delayed later.
The number of quintuple vaccinations for children is less, and babies can easily complete basic immunization at the age of 4 months and be protected in time before the high incidence of diseases comes.
The most idealized combination vaccine is that a baby injection can prevent a variety of diseases. There are already six vaccines in use internationally. Five vaccines have entered the planned immunization program in many developed countries such as the United States and France, and are also in use in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
In our country, the pentavalent vaccine has also experienced extensive use and is safe and effective. Chinese babies can also be protected by this advanced vaccine. Of course, at present, the vaccination of pentavalent vaccine in our country is at their own expense.
Precautions for Vaccination of Combined Vaccine
Finally, Ding Ma would like to remind all parents that unless the safety and effectiveness of the combined vaccine are confirmed by clinical studies and approved by CFDA, the combined vaccine cannot be vaccinated at the same time as other vaccines.
Regarding the injection site, the pentavalent vaccine is injected intramuscularly. Generally, the injection site is located at the anterolateral (middle third) of the baby’s thigh, because the muscle in this site is relatively rich, it is not easy to damage large blood vessels and nerves, and the injection safety is higher.
It is suggested that parents should communicate with doctors more according to their baby’s physical condition and choose a polio vaccination plan suitable for their baby. Vaccinate the baby safely and be a responsible mother.
Novice parents really need to learn vaccine knowledge in advance. When books are used, they hate less. Of course, it is also a good choice to read more clove mothers ~
