Mother often comes to ask:
My baby eats a lot, but even how to eat it is not fat, thinner than the children of the same age in the next house? What a hurry! How can we make our children fatter?……
However, Dr. Clove consulted a professional nutritionist and said that the so-called “baby does not eat fat” by many mothers may be an untrue phenomenon. Many babies are likely to be in a healthy state, neither fat nor thin, which is exactly the right thing.
It is because many parents subconsciously think that their children are healthier when they are chubby that they are always worried that there is something wrong with their children looking thin.
Today, Dr. Clove invited Ziqi’s mother, a national second-class nutritionist and a family with two treasures, to talk to you.
It is normal that the baby is no longer chubby.
When the baby was first born, its round face, chubby feet and lotus root-like arms and legs looked like standard.
But several times, the big fat boy/girl disappeared, her face lost weight, her lotus root segment disappeared, and her body [grew].
In fact, this is the normal development process of children.
Think about the baby’s actions before 6 months, which are too few. At most, he can only look up, turn over, move his hands and feet, and play on his stomach. Most of the time, he is lying down or being held, which consumes too little energy. As they learn more and more movements, of course they will consume more and more energy.
Secondly, the energy absorbed by babies at this stage is more used to grow up, rather than to grow up flesh. They will slowly [draw up] and look thinner, that is, from baby fat to muscular babies. This is also the most anxious stage for mothers. In fact, this is a normal growth process for children.
Is chubby healthier? Think too much
Many mothers will be proud that their babies are fat.
[My baby is over 20 kg in only four months]
[My baby is only six months old and will wear one and a half years old clothes! ]
Every time I see such parents, I really can’t bear to pour cold water on them. In fact, growing too fast is not conducive to the health of the baby. On the contrary, obesity in infancy not only affects children’s health, but also is closely related to the occurrence of metabolic syndrome in adulthood. The risk of diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, cardiac sleep respiratory disorders, cerebrovascular diseases (coronary heart disease, stroke, atrial fibrillation, heart failure, etc.) and other diseases is significantly higher than that of other children.
Therefore, parents must pay attention to obesity in infants.
Is the child really thin? Look at the curve
Children’s weight and thinness are related to many factors such as heredity, diet, exercise, diseases, etc. Especially some children, even if they are born with engines that cannot stop, have a large amount of activity and may not be easy to get fat.
Unless it is a child from a refugee country, it is definitely malnourished without special assessment. Most of the children we come into contact with cannot be judged by one examination, but are meaningful only after long-term regular and continuous monitoring.
At present, clinicians judge whether children are overweight or thin. Generally, it will be evaluated according to the [weight-height/length] graph drawn up by the World Health Organization (WHO). As long as the corresponding point of the child’s weight-height/length data is between the top and bottom black lines, and there is no large fluctuation for a long time, then the baby’s growth is good and belongs to the health category.
In most cases, the so-called fat and thin that we usually observe with naked eyes has no practical significance. Sometimes it is only the anxiety of parents that is at work.

The form is not difficult, but you must pay attention to it:
1. Regularly monitor and look at trends, not just one point.
Should regular evaluation be made, data should be recorded for many times, and observation should be made against the curve to see that the baby’s data is located at the what position of the curve? Has it declined recently? When necessary, find a doctor to adjust your diet in time to eliminate diseases. It is very unscientific to draw a conclusion easily after only one record.
2. You can’t look at height and weight separately.
The height-weight curve should be used to comprehensively judge whether the child’s height and weight are commensurate. It is inaccurate to look at only a single indicator.
3. Never use [average] as a reference standard.
Because at any time, nearly 50% of the children’s growth and development index will be higher than the average (the green curve in the figure), and about 50% of the children will be lower than the normal value.
In addition, in addition to observing the growth curve, children’s mental state, sleep and some development indicators will often be used as measurement indicators.

Advice to Mothers
Scientifically arrange diet
When arranging meals for children, don’t eat too much at each meal, don’t strictly control the amount of meals, don’t force children to eat, master the rules and time intervals of children’s eating, and you can eat extra meals every few hours. (It is suggested to refer to the Chinese children’s meal abacus, please return to WeChat homepage to reply [abacus] to check)
Control snacks and learn to read nutrition labels.
Learning to read the nutrition label can make us know at a glance the nutrients contained in each snack. Many mothers around us said that they only understood after reading this why they felt that they ate so much but were not fat. The original food they ate was junk food and should be reduced as much as possible.
Recommended snacks: fruits, nuts (low salt), low sugar yogurt, cereal biscuits, whole wheat bread and other whole grain foods.
Reasonable Arrangement of Parent-Child Sports
Children’s exercise habits are also influenced by parents. Mothers hold mobile phone brushes all day long, and most children are obsessed with mobile phones or computer games. Mothers insist on exercising every day, and children are exposed to it. Adrenaline will also be released in the body and have the desire to exercise.
Recommended parent-child sports: mountain climbing, kite flying, Frisbee throwing, running, various ball games, cycling, rope skipping, etc.
Skinny? Find a doctor to evaluate in time.
Some children are not only thin, but also accompanied by other manifestations such as chronic diarrhea, mental illness and dysplasia. At this time, timely investigation should be carried out.
Because there are many diseases that can lead to emaciation of children, such as pancreatic diseases, gastrointestinal digestive dysfunction, bowel diseases, intestinal parasite infection (roundworm, hookworm, pinworm, etc.), and some consumptive diseases (such as hyperthyroidism, tuberculosis, etc.), which can lead to nutrient absorption becoming obstruction or excessive loss, resulting in abnormal emaciation.
Read more and struggle less.
In today’s knowledge explosion, Mothers are lucky and unfortunate. Fortunately, they can learn the most scientific and reasonable knowledge of parenting without leaving home. But at the same time, it will also be misled by some people. This requires mothers to read more and accumulate more in order to polish a pair of wise eyes to distinguish right from wrong. The more knowledge you have about parenting, the more you will be surprised to find that the word entanglement has gradually gone away from you.
As children grow older, many things that they thought were big at the beginning become less important. Accumulate more at ordinary times and take time to calm down. Encourage children to develop an active lifestyle and open up a healthy road for a lifetime. The road to child-rearing is sweet and long… enjoy every detail!
