There is a means of transportation, which is docile, uniform and regular, and appears in almost all life scenes.
We ride it frequently, but we never dare to imagine that it will devour life.
This tool is the elevator.
According to the Shanghai Elevator Association and the elevator industry data of various countries, nearly 60% to 80% of the elevators in the world are installed in China. India, the world’s second largest elevator market, accounts for less than 1/10 of China’s market share.
There are now more than 4 million elevators in the country, more than four times as many as in the United States.
However, elevators are always a little uncontrollable and various accidents occur frequently.
Throughout 2016, there were 48 elevator accidents and 41 deaths across the country.
When the babies also began to face this huge machine that was running at any time, the risks and cruelty of the elevator doubled because of their low ability to identify and respond to danger.
Especially when taking escalators, especially in these three cases.
Dangerous Situation 1: Holding Baby in Hand on Escalator
Some time ago, a mother in Dongguan, Guangdong, had an accident while taking her child in an elevator. The falling child was only three or four months old.
At that time, the mother was holding the child in her left hand and there was an equally young brother on the right. The child slipped from his hand for a second or two before he could respond.
In the last scene of the video, the mother cried at the top of her voice, and the elder brother next to her said, “Mom, call Dad.”
In the end, the child died after rescue.
It is very sad that this is not an example:
In November 2016, in Wuyue Square, Qingpu District, Shanghai, a grandmother was also riding on an escalator with her 4-month-old grandson in one hand and suddenly staggered.
At the moment when there was no time to respond, the child had already got rid of it and fell from the gap of the escalator on the third floor to the first floor, where he fell to his death.
The height of the elevator was originally designed to shield the fall, but the posture of parents holding the child in one hand and holding the handrail in the other exposed the child to the danger of volley.
At this time, parents, holding their children in one hand and handrails in the other, should also pay attention to the steps running at their feet and the pedestrians nearby, which is easy to cause unstable center of gravity and unexpected situations in the figure.
In such a standing posture, parents can hardly predict when the center of gravity, friction, baby and the arm holding the baby will suddenly [disobey].
Danger 2: Push the stroller onto the escalator,
The stroller lightened us a lot of burden.
However, it must be noted that it cannot be used in escalators, which are forbidden to use strollers.
Inclined escalators cannot provide a stable support at all, and stepped escalators put the baby carriage in suspension, which is an extremely unstable state.
On February 6, at Xujiahui Station of Shanghai subway, a girl pushed her baby carriage directly onto the escalator in order to help her mother with many luggage. At this time, the front wheel of the baby carriage was empty, so there was danger and people and the car rolled down together.
Similarly, in March 2017, a thrilling scene also took place on the escalator in a commercial district in Hongan County, Hubei Province.
Pushing the baby carriage onto the escalator is not only dangerous for parents and babies, but also very irresponsible for other passengers in the same trade.
In 2014, at Shanghai Metro People’s Square Station, two passengers pushed a baby carriage onto the escalator. Unexpectedly, the wheel got stuck in the brush fixing bracket beside the escalator.
The sudden blockage of the escalator caused the passengers behind to fall back layer by layer, injuring 10 people, including a 2-year-old child with wrist bruises and a 68-year-old man with cervical spine surgery.
Fortunately, there was no baby in the baby carriage at that time, and a subway worker was cleaning nearby and pressed the emergency stop button in time.
Danger 3: Children Take Elevator Alone
When children finally broke free from their parents’ arms and stopped taking strollers to walk independently, all kinds of escalator safety incidents became even more uncontrollable.
In 2016, a young child in Kaili, Guizhou, was playing alone beside the escalator of the shopping mall when he was suddenly brought down by the handrail of the escalator and got involved in the gap between the escalator and the wall.
In 2015, a 2-year-old boy in Dongguan climbed the escalator of a shopping mall alone and accidentally fell.
After emergency rescue, the child was out of danger. Doctors said that the cases of children falling from elevators admitted before were basically serious injuries or deaths.
Take your children to the escalator, these points should be paid attention to
Escalators are frequently used and have huge potential safety hazards.
However, many parents do not even know the emergency brake button and safe riding rules, which is a kind of general safety education that is very scarce for children.
Clove mother reminds parents here that if the child can walk by himself when taking the baby on the escalator, it is best to hold his hand and let him stand on his own.
If the child is too young to stand, it is recommended to take the barrier-free straight ladder. If it is not satisfied, it is recommended to use baby braces instead and tie them tightly to the body.
But what we don’t know is that these parts of the elevator may [eat people]; Also don’t know, elevator safety is parents and children to do homework together.
Here are some things parents should be careful about:
1. Be careful of the surroundings of handrails and their gaps
The rubber joint of the escalator handrail is somewhat sharp, let alone a child. Even if an adult’s hand is accidentally caught in it, it will break the skin.
The gap between the handrail and the cover plate of the escalator is also a dangerous area. The height of this space is about 10 ~ 25cm, and the child’s body is easily stuck in this place.
2. Pay attention to the relationship between comb teeth and comb plate
Although the tooth comb of the elevator has a small gap, it is enough to accommodate the fingertip of a three-year-old child.
At the end of the ride, the child should leave the escalator immediately and do not touch it with hands and feet. In addition, do not stay in the exit area to talk or look. Subsequent downstairs and related articles may cause harm to the child.
3. Be careful of that gap between the step and the apron board
Some children like to lean their feet on the apron board when riding the escalator, but the gaps in it will also [eat people].
If the child is wearing cave shoes, it adds a heavy danger. Cave shoes are not only difficult to adapt to footwork during activities, but also have a high risk of being involved in running escalators.
In addition, make sure that children’s belongings will not be twisted into the elevator.
Articles that often cause escalator accidents include: overly long sweaters, scarves, trousers and coats, loose shoelaces and belts, and soft shoes.
4. Pay attention to the running armrest strap
Some children will lean their whole people on the armrest to play. If there is a relative movement, it is very likely to bring people down or even [take] away. Never let the children out of their sight.
When taking the escalator, attention should also be paid to forbidding children to jump, retrograde, climb, play and lean on the elevator.
5. Hit the [seven inches]-emergency stop button of the escalator.
The emergency stop button is the most important [life-saving button] in escalator riding. It is usually located at one end of the elevator.
In case of an accident, you can press and hold the button at the first time to stop the elevator immediately.
When taking your baby out, you have to deal with escalators anytime and anywhere. In the process, various situations may occur.
There is no chance of trial and error in this situation, because once it happens, it is fatal.
Since we know that we can’t afford this situation, we might as well start by learning escalator safety with our baby.
Don’t take chances, let alone risk your child’s life.
