When they caught a cold, they drank the old hen soup, hoping that the cold would get better faster. As a result, instead of getting better, they suffered from abdominal distension, diarrhea and other conditions, making their physical condition even worse.
After the examination, no special abnormalities were found in these patients, so they were instructed to suspend meat and drink some light and digestible porridge instead. As a result, abdominal distension and diarrhea were naturally relieved after 1-2 days.
Is this stomach discomfort caused by chicken soup?
It is really possible.
Chicken soup is delicious, but not everyone can drink it.
Chicken soup really tastes delicious
In early spring, the temperature is still very unstable. When the late spring cold comes, it is indeed a pleasure to drink a bowl of warm and original old hen soup.
Dr. Clove also said in previous articles that the nutritional value of chicken soup is far less than that of chicken itself, but the taste is indeed delicious. The special ingredients such as dissolved glutamic acid, hypoxanthine, sulfur and sulfur hydride in chicken soup give it unique flavor and can stimulate people’s appetite.
Although the amount of amino acids, B vitamins, creatine and other nutrients in chicken soup is small, it is a good choice for people with weak constitution and recovering digestion and absorption function.
However, the following situations, drinking chicken soup, need to pay attention to.
1. Drink less when your appetite is bad
Some diseases, such as acute and chronic digestive system inflammation, tumor, liver and kidney function injury, etc., will more or less affect the digestion and absorption capacity of protein, fat and other nutrients.
In addition, it will also be manifested as poor appetite, anorexia, oil aversion, early satiety and other symptoms.
At this time, it is not appropriate to drink too much or too thick chicken soup. The fat content in chicken soup is not low. Drinking too much will inhibit the secretion and emptying of gastric acid and will make it even more appetizing.
2. Do not drink when vomiting and diarrhea occur.
Acute gastroenteritis and other diseases, vomiting and diarrhea, should not drink meat broth including chicken soup, recommended to eat light thin rice porridge and appropriate amount of salt vegetable soup.
It usually takes 1-2 weeks for mucosal inflammation to completely subside. Only after vomiting and diarrhea improve and appetite is normal can you start drinking a small amount of chicken soup.
In addition, if the cold virus invades the intestinal mucosa, it will also cause diarrhea, which many people call [gastrointestinal cold]. At this time, it is not recommended to drink chicken soup for nourishment and treatment.
In fact, there is no definite evidence for the rumoured chicken soup to cure colds. (In contrast, there is also a statement that chicken is [hair] and must not be eaten when catching a cold, and there is no definite research evidence for this statement.)
3. Do not drink when abdominal pain and distension occur.
Digestive system diseases such as ulcer, cholecystitis, pancreatitis and intestinal obstruction can cause abdominal pain and distension. Chicken soup should not be drunk during the onset of the disease. You must eat under the guidance of a doctor and even fast.
Special reminder: When abdominal pain suddenly occurs and the cause is unknown, you must not drink chicken soup. You should temporarily stop eating water and go to the hospital in time to decide how to eat after the cause is clear.
If the above diseases are not onset, drink chicken soup lightly and less, and stop drinking in case of abdominal discomfort or abdominal pain.
4. After fasting for a long time, drink a small amount first.
Many gastrointestinal diseases, such as pyloric obstruction, gastroparesis, intestinal obstruction, acute pancreatitis, intestinal function does not recover after anesthesia surgery, etc., require fasting.
After the disease improves, the diet can be gradually resumed under the guidance of the doctor. It is advisable to take a small amount of carbohydrates that are easy to digest and absorb, such as gruel, and gradually increase the amount to increase the intake of protein and fat.
There have been many clinical examples in which family members, out of kindness, let patients drink a lot of chicken soup at once, which led to repeated or aggravated illness.
5. Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, do not drink
Chicken soup cannot be drunk when vomiting brown or pig liver-colored gastric juice, relieving tar-like black stool or stool blood occurs!
We should temporarily fast and ban water, go to the hospital to determine the cause of hemorrhage in time, and stop bleeding.
Generally, it takes 1-2 days after bleeding is stable to resume liquid eating. Usually, only after returning to normal diet for 1 week can you drink chicken soup that is not too strong.
6. If you feel uncomfortable after drinking, please stop drinking
Not everyone is suitable for drinking chicken soup.
Individuals have intolerance or allergy to chicken protein. Abdominal distension, abdominal pain, rash, chest tightness, shortness of breath and other phenomena may occur after drinking chicken soup.
People with poor physique and emaciated body have relatively less bile and pancreatic juice, which cannot completely digest and absorb the fat in chicken soup and are prone to fat diarrhea. Excessive fat in chicken soup should be removed when drinking chicken soup.
There are also friends with gout and hyperuricemia, which are not suitable for drinking too much thick soup.
After talking so much, I just want to explain that I should know how to properly handle the disease according to my own situation. Don’t be like the patients mentioned at the beginning of the article, who are bent on seeking good things. On the contrary, they don’t know the doorway, causing physical discomfort.
