The weather is cold in winter, and the baby always coughs incessantly.
Especially during the flu season some time ago, 9 of the 10 babies who came to the clinic coughed.
In fact, whenever the seasons alternate or the weather changes slightly, some babies with poor resistance are prone to colds and coughs.
It is not what’s problem to cough only occasionally. It may be that the respiratory tract responds to changes in the air. However, if the baby coughs incessantly, it may be a sign of illness.
In my X-year career, I have summarized some questions that mothers often ask about their babies’ coughs. Based on these, I give some suggestions, hoping that mothers will not worry about their babies’ coughs.

To study a problem to find the right way to solve it
Cough itself is not a disease. Through cough, respiratory tract can discharge sputum and other secretions out of the body to ensure smooth respiratory tract and avoid risks such as airway blockage and secondary infection.
Children who cough occasionally can drink more hot water, pay attention to indoor ventilation, keep the air humid and other ways to improve symptoms.
If the child keeps coughing, distinguish whether the child has a cold, bronchitis or pneumonia, upper airway cough or allergic cough. After understanding the symptoms clearly, give the child medicine.

Avoid abuse of anti-inflammatory drugs
We often say cephalosporins, such as cefaclor, cefadroxil, cefixime, cefdinir, etc. Penicillin, such as amoxicillin, ampicillin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, erythromycin, clindamycin, etc., are all anti-inflammatory drugs, scientific name antibiotics.
Many people think that [throat inflammation and tonsil inflammation] require [anti-inflammatory drugs]. In fact, it is not. Red swelling of throat and tonsil does have inflammation, but inflammation is not necessarily caused by bacterial infection. Antibiotics are only effective for bacterial infection and not for viral infection.
Since most babies’ cough is caused by viral colds, anti-inflammatory drugs are not used much.

Do a Good Job in Family Nursing
Provide a comfortable family environment for the baby, and keep the air humidity at about 50%; Stay away from smoke, ventilate more, and close doors and windows in smoggy weather. Wear a suitable mask for your baby when you go out.
The baby coughs badly. You can drink honey over the age of 1. You can eat it 3-4 times a day, one spoonful each time, about 2-5 ml. One bite is enough for the child.
Use normal saline to atomize the child. If there is no atomization device in the home, you can also try to use bathroom steam to let the child stay in the bathroom full of warm and humid steam for 5-10 minutes.
