I met such a thing in the hospital before.
The patient, Mr. Wang, was admitted to the hospital by Dr. A to undergo oral cancer surgery. After completing the relevant examination, his operation is scheduled for next Monday.
Mr. Wang is actually the old patient of Dr. A. Everyone is familiar with him and has a lot of words to communicate directly.
On Friday, Mr. Wang showed Dr. A a text message. We frowned at it.
A strange number, the text message reads as follows:
Mrs. Wang hello (Mr. Wang’s wife), I am Dr. A. I will have an operation next Monday. Please transfer XXXX yuan to this account XXXXXXX this weekend. Thank you.
Doctor A immediately reported it to the medical department, which said it received the report of this situation for the first time and then called the police.
Finally, the hospital has done a series of work to strengthen safety education and risk warning for medical personnel and patients.
After the event, I thought about it carefully and broke out in a cold sweat.
Our hospital has nearly 1,000 large-scale operations a year. This is just oral cancer, oral cancer with a low prevalence rate among systemic tumors, and there are more and more terrible tumor diseases.
Is this the first time?
How many such things happen quietly among seriously ill patients every day?
If my family had a major operation and if I had received such a short message, would I have a clear mind and enough courage to communicate with the doctor?
This is a seemingly simple scam, but in fact it has a very accurate grasp of human nature and the fragile psychological defense line of patients.
Since then, I have begun to pay attention to the possible deception in the hospital and sorted them out. There are mainly the following types:
Deception 1
Zhu, who has just arrived at the hospital to go through the hospitalization formalities, received a phone call.
The other side said that he was the doctor in charge of Mr. Zhu’s next treatment, but the operation schedule was very tight at present, and Mr. Zhu’s condition needed to be reported to the superior leadership.
The other party hopes that Mr Zhu can show some sincerity and the department will send the best doctor to operate on him. Later, the other party gave him an account number and asked him to call 5000 yuan.
Of course, Mr. Zhu will not doubt that he made the payment according to the request of the other party.
After the event, the family members went to the department to inquire, only to find that the hospital did not have this [leader] at all.
The swindler obtained personal information such as other people’s telephone numbers through hospital squatting, eavesdropping and other means, grasped the distrust of some patients towards the hospital or doctors, and pretended to be doctors to ask patients for [care fees].
Although the medical staff in the hospital all have a public list and the attending doctors of the patients also have detailed distribution. However, when patients encounter such phone calls, their first reaction is often not to communicate with the hospital.
In order to get rid of this kind of deception, doctors should explain the follow-up process and details of hospitalization to patients when going through hospitalization procedures, so as to help patients enter the hospital smoothly.
Patients who encounter such situations should also check with the hospital’s medical staff in the first place.
Deception 2
Mr. Zhu took his children to the city hospital to see a doctor and met a fellow villager on the bus. After getting off the bus, the villagers enthusiastically took Mr. Zhu to the hospital to queue up for registration.
Later, Mr. Zhu said that the child had to undergo surgery and had to pay 5000 yuan. This fellow villager was very enthusiastic to help him queue up to pay the fee. Mr. Zhu looked at the child inconveniently, so he gave the money to the fellow villager.
As a result, the villagers took the money and disappeared…
The swindler will learn the other party’s native place, family background and other information from the conversation, and then recognize with the [fellow villagers].
Then take advantage of the patient’s psychological state of illness and depression, take the initiative to be caring and attentive before and after running to help. After obtaining a certain amount of trust from the other party, then cheat the other party’s money under the guise of payment.
As the old saying goes, “If there is nothing to be attentive to, it is either rape or theft”. If you meet such overly enthusiastic people in the hospital, you still need to be more cautious.
Deception 3
After the doctor issued the hospitalization certificate, Mr Zhu went to the hospitalization window to go through the formalities.
However, the beds were full, which made Mr Zhu, who came all the way here, extremely anxious.
At this time, a man nearby saw the plane and claimed that he had connections in the hospital. He could help them to be hospitalized directly, but he had to pay a deposit first.
As soon as Mr. Zhu heard that he had access to the hospital, he gave the money to the man without much consideration.
As expected, the man disappeared again…
Liars who are well versed in the routine usually target those who come from other places to see a doctor and have relatively low cultural level.
Then, on the grounds of [being related] and [entering through the back door], the patient was defrauded of deposit and facilitation payments.
The reality that a bed is hard to find is really helpless, but it is really worse to relax our vigilance and fall into the trap of swindlers.
Deception 4
Mr. Zhu took his seriously ill mother to see a doctor and met a man in the outpatient department who claimed to be a research and development personnel of a medical research institute in XX office. He just came to the hospital to sign a drug supply contract.
The man said that the drug was newly developed and had special effects on various difficult and complicated diseases such as tumors and uremia, and was still sold at cost price before it was put on the market.
Seeing that the man was right and the product looked formal and effective, Mr Zhu, who was eager to cure his mother, spent several thousand yuan to buy several boxes.
Mr. Zhu then took the medicine and asked the doctor, but the doctor had never heard of this so-called frontier [specific medicine].
Only then did he know that he had been cheated.
The swindler seized the patient’s anxiety of rushing to the hospital, sold [specific drugs] to him, and deceived people with various high-tech gimmicks.
Often these drugs are beautifully packaged and look like [high-grade drugs].
However, these drugs are usually three non-products and may even be harmful to human body.
In fact, if you change the scene, the above tricks are simply childish and ridiculous.
However, at this specific time and scene in the hospital, what it conveys is [I have the life of your family, don’t say anything or make money].
This is not fraud, but kidnapping!
I am pessimistic that I am afraid not many people will be spared in the face of this situation. Because no one is willing to test the authenticity of this scam with the safety of their families.
Fortunately, the Internet era gives every ordinary individual the opportunity to unite to fight against evil forces that could not have been fought alone.
I believe that letting this information spread is the best blow to fraud.
