To improve baby’s immunity, bovine colostrum, probiotics… are they used in what?

As soon as the baby gets sick, the mother is in a state of mind. She wishes to have a panacea immediately, which can cure the disease. After getting well, I am worried that the baby will get sick again. I always want to eat some what and will not suffer from all kinds of diseases.

Dr. Clove understands the feelings of all mothers very well. The baby is ill. Which one can be a mother in no hurry?

Can understand the mother’s mood, there are all kinds of so-called “improving immunity” things in the market, these things can really strengthen the body, let the baby no longer sick?

Today, Dr. Clove invited Dr. Yun Wuxin to talk about these fashionable health products.

Bovine colostrum

[Colostrum] is the milk secreted by human or other mammals in the first few days after delivery, which contains a large amount of immunoglobulin, white blood cells, growth factors, etc. The intestinal tract of the newborn baby has not yet developed fully. These macromolecules can directly enter the blood to exert immune function and make the baby less sick.

However, when the baby grows up and the digestive system matures, these macromolecules cannot enter the blood.

Importantly, the composition of bovine colostrum and human colostrum is quite different, and even for newborn babies, there is no evidence to explicitly say [can improve immunity].

In fact, the composition of bovine colostrum is complex, and there is no final conclusion as to whether it is safe for babies.

Since September 1, 2012, the State Health and Planning Commission has banned the addition of bovine colostrum to infant formula foods and dairy products made from bovine colostrum.

As for what the marketing advertisement says, we can’t believe it casually.

Probiotics

The name probiotics sounds very healthy.

Indeed, many scientific studies have found that supplementing appropriate probiotics is helpful to intestinal health and enhance immunity.

However, this conclusion was reached in specific tests and specific bacteria. As for the [probiotic] products on the market, the regulatory authorities have little ability to supervise their effectiveness.

In other words, whether it is effective or not is basically up to the manufacturers themselves.

Pidotimod

This drug has a history of more than 20 years abroad, and in these 20 years, it has not been very popular.

The instructions for pidotimod are only for short-term use for specific symptoms.

Even this [for short-term symptoms] should be weighed by doctors. It is really not recommended that mothers buy it themselves and use it casually.

Various supplements

Common trace element supplements, calcium, magnesium, zinc and vitamin jelly, are indeed the nutrients needed by the human body.

However, the human body’s demand for various nutrients has a reasonable range. Less is not enough, but more is not good.

Mothers remember a principle: after meeting the needs of the human body, no additional nutrient will bring any additional benefits.

How do you know that the baby’s intake of trace elements has reached a [reasonable range]?

The answer is: For most children, eating and drinking normally every day can basically meet the nutritional needs of the body.

Protein powder

The human body also has a reasonable amount of protein demand, not the more the better.

Today’s children, meat, eggs, milk, fish and other high-protein foods are not bad, generally unlikely to lack protein.

Protein powder also has no special nutrition such as meat, eggs and milk.

It is meaningful for exercise and fitness, some elderly people with eating difficulties and special patients, but for children, it has no effect except cost money.

Extraction of various plants

Purple daisy, black elderberry and other [natural extracts] have been shown by some [preliminary studies] to improve immunity [may be helpful].

[Preliminary Research] That is to say, whether the experimental conclusion is reliable or not, researchers are not sure, and all need [further research].

Most of the time, there is no verification of subsequent studies.

However, in all kinds of marketing, the initial [possibly effective] role has been exaggerated as [scientific research has found that it has XX effect].

More importantly, these extracts are complex in composition and cannot be guaranteed safety.

How can we take something that we can’t even say clearly about safety for our baby?

In fact, having said so much, I just want to tell you that the so-called “enhancing immunity” of health care products is more like the vague rhetoric of “for hello”.

How much good it is to the baby may only be known by heaven and earth to the merchants.

How can enhance baby’s immunity?

At the end of the day, occasional colds and fevers are also normal manifestations of the body’s immune function. We don’t need to be nervous, let alone suspect that children’s immune ability is insufficient.

If you really want to enhance your baby’s immunity, there are 3 effective methods:

Vaccination on time; Eat evenly; For most children, eat more vegetables and coarse grains, control fat, sugar and fine rice flour; Strengthen exercise: small arms and legs must also move.

What? Do you think the really effective method seems a little too simple?

If we can do this, it would be very good. After all, our baby is already great!
