The Internet said that falling asleep too late will not only make children stupid and fat! It will not grow long! What is more terrible is that it is not good for the heart!
My baby always sleeps around 11 o’clock. What can I do?
What? Children’s Late Sleep Is Harmful to Life? Dr. Clove quickly found the permission teacher and told us about the children’s late sleep.
Children who go to bed early are healthier than children who go to bed late?
Is sleeping late harmful to children’s health? Children who go to bed early must be healthier than children who go to bed late?
The answer is: not necessarily.
From a scientific point of view, due to different light, temperature and living habits, everyone’s circadian rhythm ([biological clock]) is not exactly the same. [Go to bed early] or [go to bed late], in fact, there is no consistent time regulation.
On the premise of ensuring regular work and rest and sleep quality, sleeping late may not be harmful to children.
However, research shows that adults who sleep late have difficulty ensuring the same sleep quality as those who sleep early, and are more likely to feel tired during the day.
This is true for adults, especially for children who require higher sleep quality.
Generally speaking, newborns need to sleep for 14-20 hours a day, 12-14 hours for 1-3 years old and 11-12 hours for 4-6 years old.
However, according to survey data, 25 ~ 50% of preschool children and 40% of teenagers have varying degrees of sleep deficiency or sleep disorders.
Children who sleep late are more likely to sleep irregularly and their sleep quality cannot be guaranteed.
Poor sleep is harmful to children.
In fact, the widely spread [harm to children from late sleep], to be precise, should be [harm to children from poor sleep quality], mainly has five effects.
1. If you don’t sleep well, your baby will not grow tall.
The effect of sleep on height is not determined by [whether to take a nap] or [when to sleep], but by sleep quality.
The key to sleep to promote growth lies in growth hormone. The secretion of growth hormone during the day is very small, most of which is secreted after falling asleep, which can reach 1/4 to 1/2 of the total amount of a day. Generally, the peak of secretion occurs about 45 to 90 minutes after falling asleep, which is basically the same as the time of deep sleep.
If the child’s sleep time changes or is in light sleep for a long time, the peak of growth hormone will also change, which will also affect the secretion of growth hormone.
Ensure that children can sleep regularly and soundly, and children will grow faster.
2. If you don’t sleep well, baby will gain weight easily.
Everyone’s impression of [small fat people] should be that they love to eat and sleep. In fact, on the contrary, short sleep time will increase the possibility of obesity in children.
Why do you gain weight? There are two words to be popularized: leptin & ghrelin.
From the names of these two hormones, you can roughly see their functions.
Less sleep leads to a decrease in leptin secretion and an increase in ghrelin. Normally, leptin is at its lowest level in the morning, gradually increases during the day, and reaches its highest level at night. However, ghrelin rises before eating during the day, decreases after eating, and rises first and then decreases at night.
No matter adults or children, too little sleep time will lead to a decrease in the former and an increase in the latter. The final result is to eat more and grow fatter.
3. Poor sleep has an impact on Eva’s intelligence,
The nervous system in childhood is in the development stage. Sleep, especially deep sleep, can increase the function of brain neural network, promote the cerebral cortex to receive sensory stimulation and carry out information integration, thus promoting the development of children’s intelligence, memory and cognitive ability.
In addition, adequate sleep can make the nervous system get sufficient rest and recovery, which is helpful for children to improve their learning ability and memory.
Some studies have shown that lack of sleep will affect children’s nervous system function, especially hippocampal nerve function, which is responsible for learning and memory, resulting in a decline in learning ability and memory.
However, children who lack sleep for a long time are prone to dizziness, slow thinking, inattention and other phenomena, and even affect their spirits and emotions.
4. If you don’t sleep well, Eva is more likely to get sick.
I believe many mothers have such experiences. Most of the time before their children get sick, there are all kinds of [crazy playing and sleeping] situations:
At ordinary times, the baby who takes a nap at a fixed time has had too much fun these two days and suddenly stopped taking a nap.
Usually, the baby goes to bed at 9 o’clock and stays up until midnight for several days.
When a child’s sleep pattern is disturbed over and over again, the child [cannot carry it], his immunity will decline and he will be prone to illness.
Some scholars have studied that when people lack sleep, the activity of natural killer cells, interleukin 2 and lymphokine activated killer cells all decrease. These cells or factors are the [main force] of the immune system, and their ability to resist diseases decreases accordingly.
5. Poor sleep indirectly affects baby’s heart development,
Let’s think about it, after each night shift or stay up late, will you feel uncomfortable with arrhythmia the next day?
The study found that people who sleep less than 5 hours a day have a 1.82 times higher risk of coronary heart disease than sleeping 8 hours a day, while the risk of acute myocardial infarction is 2-3 times higher.
At present, there is no research on children’s heart diseases caused by sleeping late or not getting enough sleep, but don’t allow children to sleep late because of this, otherwise forming the habit of sleeping late will indirectly affect heart health.
Children just don’t go to bed early, what should they do?
Some mothers said: All the reasons are understood, but due to various factors, children just cannot go to bed early. What can I do?
Try to ensure children’s regular and high-quality sleep:
- Develop regular sleep habits, sleep regularly and start regularly. Abstain from midnight snack; Keep calm before going to bed, avoid nervousness and excitement, and don’t watch cell phones, TV, etc. You can drink milk before going to bed, but you cannot eat too much. The sleep environment should be quiet and the bed and pillow should be comfortable. Some children like to turn over after falling asleep, sleep unsteadily, night terrors and wet the bed. Most of these problems can gradually improve as the children grow up. However, if there are frequent cases that seriously affect sleep, they should take the children to the hospital to eliminate mental and neurological diseases.
The child slept late, not as terrible as imagined.
But it is better to go to bed early than late.
It is always wonderful to let Eva go to bed earlier.
